We’re reaching the tail-end of July, and it’s time to get cracking. But before work starts pouring in, you can afford the time to indulge one more time – band together with your closest group of friends and head down to one of these watering holes for a great night out.
#1: Highlander @ Clarke Quay
If your choice of poison is scotch, there’s no place that’s better for you than Singapore’s first scotch and whiskey specialist bar, Highlander. This is a great place to let loose, unwind, and engage in an intense drinking competition with your friends (or strangers turned friends).
3B River Valley Road, #01-11 Clarke Quay, 187996
Maybe you prefer all things Spanish – and in that case, our top recommendation would be none other than tapas bar Bar-Celona. The people behind this bar are self-proclaimed cava lovers, and their mission is to educate Singaporeans about the merits of cava, and share the spirit of cava drinking. We’re on board for sure!
21 Duxton Hill, 089604
The NATIVE cocktail bar is famed for The Antz cocktail that contains crunchy Thai ants, basil leaf, Thai Rhum and coconut yogurt to create this exotic drink. Founded by Vijay Mudaliar, NATIVE is committed to the use of local and regional produce in their cocktail menu. The bar and owner also won the most creative cocktail bar and bartender of the year at the 2017 edition of The Bar Awards in Singapore.
#4: Octapas Spanish Tapas Bar
Like Bar-Celona, Octapas is also a tapas bar, but whilst the former is a more laidback and mellow establishment, the latter is where people go to party. At Octapas, you’ll find awesome live music, the best sangria you’ll ever taste, and plenty of authentic Spanish dishes such as paella. What more could you ask for?
Blk D, #01-08 Clarke Quay, River Valley Road, 179023
#5: Coq & Balls
Coq & Balls is an unpretentious, laidback neighbourhood pub where you can kick back and enjoy your favourite alcohol. Take your pick from a wide range of international beers and ciders – or try the Chuck Norris. This specialty cocktail comes with a triple shot of green, blue and red absinthe, and is served in a flaming glass for maximum wow factor.
6 Kim Tian Road, Kai Fook Mansion, 169246
#6: Tier Bar
Tier Bar isn’t at the most convenient of locations, we’ll admit – but its gorgeous surroundings of lush, landscaped greenery never fail to win us over. Come after 5pm when the heat of the day is starting to dissipate – and order their signature Butterscotch Cosmopolitan which contains a delightful mix of Vodka, Triple Sec, Butterscotch, Lime Juice, and Cranberry Juice.
